GitHub, my new home

As I mentioned in my previous posts, I took the jump and moved over to GitHub. I moved over to a public repository system to make it easier on me pushing my code changes to the public (the current download system on my site isn't too intuitive). So over the past few weeks I have been slowly adding all my scripts to GitHub and pushing the code. Additionally, I have been uploading the old zipped versions of the scripts, which can be found on the respective repo's downloads page. I would of done and SVN import into Git, but it kept stalling every time I did so, oh well!

With the move to GitHub, I have updated all the download links and buttons on the site. It either asks you to download the files, or clone the repo (both of which will bring you to do the GitHub page). I do miss my download counter though... I really wish GitHub had a total downloads/clones feature.

Anyways, you can find my GitHub at the user milesj. I will be pushing all my changes and code here from now on using Git, but will still keep updating the change log on this site, and posting announcements about it. Now get to cloning!

New scripts galore

It has been quite a while since I posted a real entry, I just haven't worked in CakePHP for the past few weeks. Hopefully these two new scripts and the new script versions will make up for it. Be sure to updated your Databasic if you are using it!

New Scripts

Compression
Compression is a light weight class that will load a CSS stylesheet, bind and translate given variables, compress and remove white space and cache the output for future use. Upon each request will determine if the cached file should be loaded if the original has had no modifications.

Formation
Formation is a lightweight class that can build all necessary elements for a form, process the posted data (post, get, request), validate the data based on a schema and finally return a cleaned result. Has logic for error handling and applying a class to invalid fields. Additionally, all validator functions are static and can be used externally.

Databasic v2.0 has arrived!

I am proud to present the new Databasic, version 2.0! Since I added quite a few new methods and functionality, rewrote and optimized most of the code, I felt it would be good to deem this version 2.0 instead of 1.11. The biggest new features in this version are support for multiple databases, using the create() method to create a database table, and the addition of many MySQL statement methods. Some of these new methods include drop(), truncate(), describe(), create() and optimize(). On top of all these additions, I have cleaned the code and fixed any bugs that were existent.

Note before upgrading! The new 2.0 version is not necessarily backwards compatible, the new system removes the constants that are used for the connection info, and instead uses a new method called store() that can store multiple connections. Finally the select() method has been changed, the arguments $limit and $offset have been removed and are now part of the $options array.

Databasic v1.10.3 Released

It seems the most recent version of my Databasic class had a few problems in it. I left some code in there (echos and comments) that was used while I was testing, and I forgot to revert it. I want to thank Tanax for sending me an email and pointing it out. To everyone else, please download the latest version (1.10.3) and be sure to email me if you find any problems.

Commentia v1.2 Released!

I recently got a few emails from individuals about by Commentia script. They suggested that I add a settings system for the Behavior that loads on setup() (didn't know about this with the lack of documentation). Well to say the least I took their advice and redid the script so you don't have to manually edit the file, you just define the settings in the model. The documentation has been updated to reflect this change.

Databasic v1.10.2 Released

I have just released a new version of my MySQL database class, Databasic. This new version fixes a few issues with binds, MySQL functions and little bugs here and there. I have also added an "takes x seconds to execute the query" to every query in debug mode, no idea why I didn't add it before!

Update! There was a small bug in version 1.10.1 concerning the execute() method. I just patched it to 1.10.2, enjoy!

My open-source scripts officially released!

So it has taken me nearly a year to get to this point. Over the past year I have been building some very advanced PHP classes and scripts that I wish to release as open-source. The types of scripts range from database handlers, template engines, form validation and cleaning, session management, CakePHP components and behaviors, so on and so forth. For the time being im releasing 3 scripts that I deemed "stable" and "complete". I hope you love them and get as much use out of them as I have. The following 3 scripts are now officially released to the public!

Databasic - A basic wrapper class for the MySQL database engine. Contains methods for connecting to a database, fetching and returning results, building insert and update queries, optimization and more.

Gears - A template engine that loads template files, binds variables to a single file or globally without the need for custom placeholders/variables, allows for parent-child hierarchy and parses the template structure.

Commentia - Commentia is a CakePHP Behavior that automatically runs after a comment is made. Each comment is tested upon a point system to determine and classify it. If a comment has more then 1 point it is automatically approved, if it has 0 points it continues pending, and if it is in the negative point range it is either marked as spam or deleted entirely.

Resources for the holidays

It's been over a week without me updating, and im not gonna let that slide! But I do have an excuse, Christmas is right around the corner so I've been extremely busy with work and present hunting. I do have many things in store for the coming month, a few of them being more tutorials in CakePHP, jQuery and general PHP. I also have many open-source scripts that I will be releasing to the public, a few of them including database abstraction, a template engine, pagination, markup parser and more.
